Marina Doerksen

Founder of Rina Lynne Studios

Welcome to Rina Lynne Studios, curated to showcase my creativity and skillset in the field of art! My studio encompasses various forms of art; traditional painting on canvas, digital illustration, and graphic design. Yes, I do consider graphic design an art form. I originally got into graphic design in order to channel my creative nature in a way to make a living.

I am from a small town in Southern Alberta, Canada and I currently live in Edmonton, AB. A couple other things about me; I have collected an unusual amount of plants in a very short time (who needs a banana tree in Alberta), and I love a good puzzle. I have two cats; Nala, the queen of the house and Rook the ABSOLUTE menace.

The Start of Rina Lynne Studios

Rina Lynne Artwork

It has been 6+ years of painting, exploring my style, exploring different mediums, and exploring the purpose of my artwork - why do I paint what I paint?

I paint with acrylics and occasionally watercolours. Acrylics allow me the ability to get as detailed as I want, while keeping a texture that makes my art unique to me. Wild animals are my go-to inspiration - it is my way of admiring all of God’s beautiful creations. There is something so mesmerizing and mysterious about certain beings, such as this gorilla here.

My Design Journey

Rina Lynne Design

I started my digital design journey in 2019 and received a diploma in Digital Media and IT for Visual Communications. I worked as an in-house designer for a couple years before starting my freelance practice, specializing in layout design which includes all kinds of promotional and advertising material, workbooks, and business materials like pitch decks and flyers.

While working full time as an in-house designer, I gained so much experience with various styles of design; everything from web design to brand story, logos, and book covers. This allowed me to discover my true potential for certain areas of design.

I work with a range of clients like Oodle Noodle, ConsciousWorks and Le Baron’s Car Club.

Then I Found Procreate

Rina Lynne Draw

Throughout my time working as a designer, I dabbled in digital illustration but it was always a supporting skillset instead of one of my main strengths. Within the last couple of years, I have gotten more and more serious about illustration and finding ways to make it part of my weekly routine.

Not only has it elevated my expertise as a designer, but has also opened up a whole new avenue for freelancing! I illustrated my first children’s book in 2023, currently working on my second book, and I have SO MANY projects coming your way this year. I am so excited to incorporate illustration into Rina Lynne Studios.
